Why see Pete?

Its hard to find someone who cares more about helping with your body than Pete. Combining that energy with his curious nature and thirst for answers. He has become an expert at musculoskeletal diagnosis and diagnostic treatment. Allowing him to often get results much faster than others in his field. Pete is one of the most skilled dry needlers in the greater Newcastle region (in our opinion of course). His technique is considerably more gentle than common dry needling approaches, he has been known to bet even the most nervous and needle phobic patients a consult on the house.

Why see Alain?

A massage with Al not only calms and sooths your nervous system but nurtures your mind. He is very skilled at quickly honing in our your tightest spots and easing them with the least amount of discomfort possible. Al has so many techniques under his belt he can cater your session to your exact needs. Al will likely discuss your case with Pete to ensure you are getting the best possible outcome from your massage. Pete describes Al as the perfect relaxed compliment to Pete's more energetic approach.

Pete's story

We are a sum of our experiences... My healthcare journey started as a patient. I was a teenager in pain. Years of thoracic pain, muscle tightness, one sided injuries, and unfortunately no results. I tried massage, physio, GP, psychologist. I did the rehab, I was very active, I even stretched my hamstrings every day for 6 months. Nothing was working and I was left with so many unanswered questions. I finally found a curious and caring professional who conducted the most thorough history and examination I'd ever had. His questions showed he really cared, he took the time and made me feel valuable, not just a number. He happened to be a Chiropractor. Against my GP's advice I decided to trial a treatment plan. I was desperate! I was impacted so much by the chiropractic treatment as well as the holistic  healthcare paradigm that it inspired me to become a chiropractor. I wanted to give that same experience back to people like myself, and hopefully teach as many people as I could the benefits of a preventative approach before they had to go through what I did or help them get out of it like me.

After years of clinical practice and helping thousands of people feel better and do things they didn't think they could, I started to discover the limitations of the chiropractic paradigm on its own and what could only be achieved on the chiropractic table. I invested my spare time into movement therapies, rehabilitation and psychology. What I discovered opened up a whole new range of possibilities.

What I offer is a bridge between treatment and exercise, treatment to relieve and revive and movement to empower, promote personal growth, resilience and independence.

My goal as the founder of Newcastle Movement Doctor is not to compete with any other health professional or misrepresent myself or my team as  medically trained doctors. We are here to create a professional service that encompasses all the good that Chiropractors, Exercise Physiologists, Osteopaths and Physiotherapists do, and thus create a new breed of highly educated musculoskeletal professionals that are evidence focused, co-operative, open minded and most importantly patient focused.

Alain's Story

My journey into remedial massage therapy began back in 2012.

I injured my back doing a bodyweight workout so badly that I couldn’t even stand up straight. The pain was so severe that I went to the emergency department, where I was given a muscle relaxant to help manage the symptoms. That’s also when I found out I had a compressed disc in my spine. But I knew medication wouldn’t fix the real problem.

Looking for another solution, my wife did some research and we decided that I should try a chiropractor.

Before performing any adjustments, the chiropractor examined my back and began applying pressure to specific trigger points. The pain I felt in those areas was intense—much stronger than anything I had experienced before. He explained that many of my muscles were extremely tight, and as long as that tension remained, my body would not respond properly to chiropractic adjustments. And even if he could adjust me, they likely wouldn’t hold or have a lasting effect.

During the first two treatments, he didn’t perform any spinal adjustments at all. Instead, he focused entirely on releasing the tight trigger points in my muscles. Only after those muscles had relaxed was he able to perform adjustments effectively. That experience opened my eyes to how deeply muscle tension can affect the body, and how important it is to address the muscles and the nervous system before other treatments can work properly.

This experience sparked a strong curiosity in me. I wanted to understand how muscle tension develops, how trigger points form, and how techniques like deep tissue massage and muscle release can help prevent pain from reaching that level.

That curiosity eventually grew into a passion and led me to pursue training in remedial massage therapy. Today, after 13 years of clinical practice, I still have that same passion and drive to help others prevent or recover from injuries through massage. Now, as part of the team at Newcastle Movement Doctor, working alongside chiropractic and movement-based therapies, I’ve seen an even greater impact.
